Mumbai Cricketer Hit in Head by Ball from Adjacent Match, Dies on Spot
MUMBAI: A somber incident unfolded during a cricket match at Major Dhadkar Maidan in Matunga, where tragedy struck on Monday.
Jayesh Savla, 52, lost his life on the spot after a forceful blow to the head while fielding in the Kutchi Community’s cricket tournament for veterans at Dadar. Positioned near another ongoing match at Dadar Parsee Colony pitch, Savla had little time to react as a powerful pull shot from a nearby batter struck the back of his head.
Rushed to Sion Hospital, the businessman from Bhayandar was declared dead upon arrival. The unfortunate incident draws parallels to the fatal blow suffered by Australia’s Phil Hughes.
Savla’s funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon. Rohit Gangar, a participant in the tournament, recounted the tragic event, highlighting the eerie resemblance to Hughes’ demise.
